It’s understandable that when your wedding finally rolls around, you want it to be everything that movies, TV, and popular culture, in general, have told you that it’s capable of being. Some people, more than others, will have hyped this day up inside their own mind since their youth, but it will inevitably be important to you even if that description doesn’t match you.
However, you can do what you can to ensure that your wedding is everything that it can be, despite the pressures that you might feel from external sources. This is your (and your partner’s) day, and it’s only right that you get a say in how it turns out.
The Aesthetic
When you think of weddings, you might have a pretty typical idea of how they’re going to turn out, with churches and fancy reception halls, but that doesn’t have to be what yours looks like. For starters, you might have your own beliefs or lifestyle that have a say in how you want this to turn out. That aside, though, your own tastes, in general, might dictate the direction that you end up taking – such as wanting to be more of an outside affair than your usual wedding, which might help to provide a different, more relaxed atmosphere.
It goes beyond the venue itself, though, extending to you and the guests. You might have some idea of how you want the guests to adorn themselves, especially regarding the bridesmaids, but perhaps most important is your own dress. Finding your dream wedding dress isn’t easy, but knowing your options can give you a good place to begin.
The Pre-Wedding Events
The idea of a bachelor/bachelorette party might not interest you nearly as much as the wedding itself, but it’s important to see the value in these events. They are something that their popular image might somewhat ruin, but in reality, it’s a chance for you to spend some time with your friends before your wedding, and just like the wedding, it can take whatever form you want it to. While your friends might technically have control of it, they should have your best interests at heart, and it might even be worth being open with them about what you would want to do here.
The Honeymoon
Once the wedding itself is out of the way, the attention of you and your partner might naturally turn to the honeymoon. This could be something that you were even more excited about than the wedding itself, and if you avoided hosting your wedding abroad out of concerns of how it would affect the guests’ attendance, this is where you can re-focus your efforts. After the stress of the wedding and the time that went into organizing it, you and your partner deserve some time to yourselves. The best part about this is that it doesn’t have to be abroad at all. It can be whatever best suits the interests of those involved.
