When you are in a dark place, it can feel like you’ll never make it out. The truth is however, that millions of people feel, have felt and will feel the same way you do at some point in their lives.
You are Not Alone
Even with the overabundance of social networks on the internet, it’s easy to feel completely alone and separated from the rest of the world. There is a high chance you aren’t alone, but it’s hard to mingle with people when you’re so sad all the time. If you feel like no one would possibly want to know you because you don’t feel worth knowing yourself, try taking baby steps first by reaching out online or in your immediate surroundings. A little friendship will help pull you back up should you fall back into depression later on. Everyone goes through tough times like bad breakups, job losses, financial stress, or the death of a loved one. It’s very scary at first, but friends can help through some of the worst times.
“I think there is a special world for us, here on Earth. And I think it’s real important that we remember that there are a whole lot of us and we all belong in this world together.” – Gilda Radner.
The Job of Life Does Not Suck
Even if you don’t have the greatest job in the world, school isn’t your favorite thing to do or can’t even find something to keep yourself busy while having bills piling up, know this: The job of life does not suck. There may be times when things seem like they never work out or that you’re just stuck going through the motions day after day but one thing I’d want to make clear to everyone suffering from depression is that life doesn’t suck, YOU don’t suck. You may be in a bad place, but it’s important to remember that you are not the one to blame. There’s nothing wrong with trying to understand things and find your way back out of it. In such situations, seeking help from psychologists in Brisbane can be a positive step. That is what makes you human, remember?
Try Something New
Finding a new hobby or just doing something different every now and then can help pull you away from your usual surroundings. It helps brighten up the day for yourself by earning something worth feeling good about (even if it’s just a simple thing like tidying up your room, doing some yoga at home, or walking your dog in the park). The thing is once depression sets in, tasks like these seem so daunting it no longer feels worthwhile to even try them because hey, maybe I’m just hopelessly depressed and will never make anything good of my life. I know it may not sound like that much but creating little goals, taking small steps and working hard can help you reach your big goal, whatever that may be.
What's Next?
Depression psychologists have found through experience that many people tend to suggest the unfavorable option as a way out of boredom or just because we don’t know better: “Just kill yourself”, “You’re stupid”, “Why don’t you just die?”. Don’t listen to these negative thoughts as they will only leave you feeling worse than before. You are worth so much more than that, and no matter how bad things seem around you at this very moment if you try to fight for something better one day it will happen for you.
Because we all have bad times in our lives it’s important to remember that there is always a way out of feeling sad and alone: just reach out so someone can help lift you back up again! Life isn’t supposed to be constantly good, but it’s definitely something we should never give up on. As long as you make the conscious decision to try to improve your situation, you will find happiness slowly enter back into your life, in small parts at first but then more regularly and often. Keep working on changing your mindset and circumstances, keep talking to people about your problems to build a support network, and keep trying new and different ways to get out of your rut, and soon you will be.
